Not properly securing attractants like garbage, BBQs, smokers, pet and livestock feed and bird feeders, creates a safety risk for you, your family and pets, and your neighbors. It also puts our mountain wildlife at significant risk.

Over the past couple weeks, a black bear has been raiding garbage cans in many subdivisions on the mountain. The bear is very familiar with garbage, is not afraid of people or hazing (e.g., yelling, bear horn, whistle), and residents have reported that it has exhibited resource guarding behavior.

Because of the potential safety risk to Anarchist residents, the BC Conservation Officer Service is aware of this bear.

To help avoid negative encounters with our mountain bears, please remember to spray your garbage and recycling bins with a bleach/water solution often, keep BBQs and smokers clean, and keep other attractants properly secured.

Here are some other steps we can take to keep our yards attractant free.

And remember, a fed bear is a dead bear.
