Did you know...

During hibernation, bears undergo a remarkable biological process. They don't urinate throughout their entire winter sleep, which lasts for months. Instead, their bodies recycle waste products like urea into usable proteins. This unique adaptation helps them maintain their muscle mass and prevent toxic build-up while conserving energy. the ability to recycle waste during hibernation is crucial for their survival in harsh winter conditions. And why they wake up really hungry come spring.

The unseasonably warm and dry weather this winter may be messing with hibernation patterns for some bears and, especially at lower elevations on the mountain, bears may wake up for short periods. Please remember to keep all attractants (garbage, BBQs, pet food, bird feeders) properly secured. This will best assure that potential negative interactions with our bears are minimized.
